There's something magical about capturing movement in stillness. The lilac-breasted roller - with it's vibrant colours and effortless grace - has always fascinated me. This piece began as a simple study of flight and turned into one of my most detailed works to date.

Layering depth - adjusting feather texture and shadowing to build volume and light.

Blocking in base colours - the first hints of lilac and turquoise starting to shape the bird's form.

Every layer adds new life to the piece - I love seeing how subtle colour shifts bring movement to the canvas.

Once the piece is finished you will be able to view it with my other wildlife artworks on the main gallery page.
